Moving house checklist
Please see below our suggestions for a successful house move, you could visit the BAR who have a more detailed breakdown of the below:
- Confirm removal dates once you have exchanged (although always check dates with mover 1st)
- Pay deposit and complete removals paperwork/contract
- Discuss with removal company the type of property moving to and any access details
- Confirm or decline insurance and provide value of goods
- Ensure the mover has all your contact details
- Dispose of any items you don’t want to take
- Clarify to the mover if there are any changes to what is to be moved since the initial survey
- Run down the content of your freezer
- Arrange a carpet fitter to lift and or fit where necessary
- Book the disconnection of main services
- Cancel all rental agreements
- Notify change of address: doctor, dentist, optician, vet etc
- Inform your bank, saving/share accounts, credit card etc
- Inform services: water, gas, electricity, phone, satellite, TV Licence
- Renew driving licence, car registration, passport
- Arrange Royal Mail to redirect post
- Clear the loft
- Organise parking at the new property
- Dismantle any items that you have not arranged for the remover to do
- Take down any fixtures or fittings and make good the walls
- Plan where things are to go in the new home
- Cancel the milk and papers
- Send new address cards/ emails to friends and family
- Separate jewellery, money and paperwork
- Find and label keys
- Put together a basic catering pack for moving day and first night in your new home
