How do you provide a quote?

We offer a free, no obligation quote service.  Our experienced surveyor will visit you at a pre- arranged time to assess what items need to be moved, the access at your collection address and discuss what other services you would like, or items that require special care.  We also require information about your delivery address (if known) so when we prepare the quote we can plan the move, with the right amount of personnel and lorries, to ensure a stress free move for you.

What is the best time to contact a removal company?

We generally advise that once your chain is complete and conveyancing has been going for about 6 weeks (i.e. there has been financial commitment shown by surveys/mortgage fees etc.) is the best time to book for us to come in.  You DON’T NEED A MOVE DATE for us to survey your goods and quote for your move.  If you’re not sure, give us a call to discuss.

How many removers should I get quotes from?

We advise at least 3 (in busy periods in the summer) – but try to compare “apples” with “apples” – the service you get with a BAR company is not the same as that with an unaccredited firm.  Also, bear in mind that larger firms (with more lorries) will have more availability – relying on a smaller company with only one or two lorries, will mean they can only book one move per day, so if you won’t have much notice to book before your date, the likelihood of them being able to fulfil your booking is slimmer.

What should I look for in a Removal Company?

Always employ a BAR accredited remover, if at all possible.  Make sure your removers come to visit you and understand exactly what is involved in your move.  Everyone’s circumstances, house and possessions are different, so if a remover won’t come to see you, how can they plan the job adequately, ensure the size of lorry is correct, the amount of time and personnel allowed are sufficient to get you out of one house and into another within whatever deadlines you have.  Check out reviews – the BAR have their own independent review site , also look for affiliations to Which Trusted Traders or other trade bodies that require certain standards for membership.  Other reviews can be found on Google and Yell.  It’s tempting just to go for the cheapest company but, given moving house is something that costs thousands anyway, don’t compromise on service for the sake of a few pounds.

Choose your removal company wisely do not be swayed purely on price, after all these will be people dealing with your prized possessions. Choose a removal company that suits your circumstances and requirements and always ask for references.

What does membership of the BAR mean?

To be accredited by the British Association of Removers is a sign of industry excellence.  Staff have to be trained and uniformed and the member has to comply fully with the Industry Code of Practice.  The Terms and Conditions for BAR companies are stringently upheld and we are inspected regularly to ensure compliance.

Do you provide packing materials and boxes?

We sell packaging materials and boxes from our premises in Watchmoor Park to anyone, even if they are not moving with us – our prices are much more competitive than self-store and the boxes are better quality!)

If you want boxes prior to booking a move with us, we charge you for the boxes but will take this cost away from the final sum you pay for your move.

If you have booked and are moving with us within a 15 miles radius, we ask for a refundable £50 deposit to cover all your boxes, until they are returned to us after your move.  If you are moving further than 15 miles, we give you good, second-hand boxes free of charge.

What other services do you offer?

We can offer specialist packing services of china and glass, kitchen items or a full pack, which does mean EVERYTHING.  We do not insure items that you have packed yourself.  We dismantle and re-assemble basic beds and tables as part of our service.  We can also tackle more complicated items, but there is likely to be a charge. We also move pianos (both upright, grand and electronic) and antiques (including grandfather clocks).

Can I move at the weekend?

We do offer Saturday moves, but these do cost up to 35% more (as the removal men are paid more).

I may need some storage for my move, can you help?

This is a common issue with clients downsizing, or when a chain may collapse unless someone vacates.  We offer storage in our purpose built premises in Watchmoor Park.  The site is secure, with alarms and CCTV.  Items are stored in wooden containers, sealed and inventoried, so there is not no confusion as to what is where.  We are significantly cheaper than self-store, both for long term and short term.  Like self-store, we can allow access to containers, but this has to be pre-arranged and does have a small fee.  We also only charge for what you use, the charges are entirely clear and our prices are fixed (unlike all the so called “offers” you get at self-stores, when you accept a certain rate at the beginning but when the offer runs out you pay more).

You are welcome to visit our warehouse, by prior arrangement to see our facilities.

Are my items insured during the move and in storage?

Included in your move is a limited liability insurance policy (full details available on request and will be provided when we quote).  This policy is limited to £40 per item, so to enhance your insurance cover we also offer an optional additional policy which covers you to put you in the same position as you were prior to the move.  We also offer insurance cover for items in storage the cover cost is dependent on the value of the items in store.
